The New Linksys: Your all-access media hub

About a month ago, I finally bought myself an external hard drive with a whopping storage capacity of 1 Terrabyte. Wild noh? That’s equivalent to 1000 GB. You could practically store the entire Internet there! Anyway, I got such a great deal with it that it was practically impossible to pass up. Plus, I had really meant to buy one for myself anyway.

Now I wish I had waited. Cisco Media Hub just launched its latest offering called The Linksys, a 500GB storage device that allows you to access your files from anywhere in town (or the world) via the Internet! You know what this means…no more lugging around of bulky hard drives to meetings, trips and well, pretty much anywhere just to access your files! All you need is an Internet connection and a laptop and you’re good to go! You can grab your files while you’re on the road, at a coffee shop, in a meeting or halfway around the world as long as you’re connected (while your hard drive sits safely at home)! A secure HTTP connection keeps your files safe, even if your laptop gets stolen.

Let’s make this even cooler. Let’s say you, Mom and Dad want to watch 3 different movies stored inside the Linksys. If there’s WI-FI available, all you three have to do is connect and then watch your movies on your own using either your laptops or TVs (provided you hook up the Linksys using a Digital Media Adapter). What if your sister wants to access her songs and listen to them in her room? No problem, all she’s gotta do is access the Linksys using WI-FI too.

It’s also a breeze to use. It’s got a USB/Card slot for easy file transfer and there’s even expandable storage in case you fill up your 500GB right away (which you will—the whole family will be clamoring for space in it for sure!)

I find this product very convenient because not only does it make accessibility so easy, it also lessens the risk of destroying or losing precious files. After all, external drives are known to be very delicate. As in you have to place them down g-e-n-t-l-y! I know so many people whose external hard drives just...die. That’s why I keep mine at home in a safe, dry spot and only take it out whenever I really have to.
